Step Up
What’s your mindset walking into a tough leadership moment?
Are you confident… or cautious? Leading… or avoiding? Clear… or hoping it works out?
Let’s get real— Are you having the tough conversations? Especially with the people you’re closest to?
Those are the hardest.
I’ve seen high-level leaders avoid accountability conversations— not because they don’t know what to say, but because it’s uncomfortable.
And in the end, that avoidance hurts them more than anyone else.
Why do we gloss over things…dance around them…or say just enough—but not what actually needs to be said?
The toughest conversations I’ve ever had were with my wife. She’d agree.
Why? Because there’s so much invested.
And in the past, we’d push things down. That builds resentment. Not in them— in us.
And that’s on us.
So, let’s get this right—
If you know what needs to be said… If you care about the person… If you’re grounded in values…Then you are the leader they need in that moment.
And it’s your responsibility to lead. Your time to step up. Not aggressively. Not emotionally.
But clearly, directly, and respectfully.
Because when you avoid it, you’re not protecting them. You’re protecting yourself.
Know your people. Know the standard. Say what needs to be said.
As Zig Ziglar said: “You’ve got to be before you can do… and do before you can have."
