The One Thing

Unlimited membership, yet limited space.  That’s right – any gym in January!  Good people with good intentions and plenty of motivation, yet so few who are still showing up in March.  And there, too, go their goals! Let’s look at one common reason…

Typically, when we are ready to commit to change, we want to commit to too much change – which usually yields no change at all!  Brian Tracy, world renowned motivational speaker and author, advises that we choose the ONE THING that if done effectively and consistently over the next 90 days would have the greatest impact on our desired outcome.  What do you want?  Then, what should you be doing (the one thing) to get it?

How about your job?  What one thing, that if done effectively and consistently over the next 90 days, would have the greatest positive impact on your job performance?  How about your marriage? What one thing, that if done effectively and consistently over the next 90 days, would have the greatest positive impact on your marriage?  What about health and fitness?  What one thing, that if done effectively and consistently over the next 90 days, would have the greatest positive impact on your health?  You see, there are so many things we could do to improve our job performance, our marriage or our health.  Trying to tackle all or most of them? How’s that been working?

Let’s clear the screen, and put the blinders on, and imagine that only ONE THING really mattered.  Let’s also be honest – if you focus on that ONE THING, other stuff will still get done.  The key is that the action that provides the greatest return is fully leveraged, with consistency and very specific intent.  That will provide the greatest return on effort!

Let’s go – if you could only make one change, what would you change?  Decide, execute for 90 days – finish what you start – then and only then look back.
