Chewy, Dogs and Flowers

As a Chewy customer, my wife was recently reading an online article that we found very interesting.

A customer had ordered several bags of dog food for their dog. Unfortunately, their dog had passed away prior to the delivery and when the food arrived, this very sad dog owner reached out to Chewy to ask if he could return the order.

The company advisor quickly replied by saying, “We’re so very sorry to hear about your dog passing away. Please keep the dog food and give it away to someone. And we’ll remove the charge from your account.” Then, a few days later, the customer received a sympathy card and flowers from Chewy.

That’s customer service! I suspect there is no policy here that made this happen other than allowing, and even empowering their customer service people to do whatever it takes, and even going ABCD – Above and Beyond the Call of Duty – to effectively serve and “wow” their customers.

What did Chewy have to lose? A couple of bucks.

What did they have to gain? Well, other than supporting and cheering up their customer, there was the viral impact of their good works - which led to my wife seeing and reading the article and me now sharing it with you!

What are some kind and caring actions we can take towards others?

Our son, rather than giving a few dollars to a homeless guy on the corner, actually took him to lunch. He gave him a free meal and a listening ear – something he probably hadn’t had in a long time.

I remember a time we delivered pizza to a homeless man. Maybe he would have liked the cash, but you wouldn’t have thought that when we handed him that hot, steaming pizza!

Be grateful and kind to others. You may never know the depth of their situation and the impact of your actions.
